Have you always wanted to have whiter teeth? Have you got an important occasion such as a wedding to go to?
Teeth usually discolour with age but many patients find that they have stained teeth due to tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco consumption. The tooth whitening process is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. Your dentist can advise on whether you are suitable for treatment based on your tooth and gum condition.
Your dentist will take a mould of your teeth to custom-make a close-fitting mouth tray for you. The bleaching trays are created with areas to hold a reservoir of whitening agent against the teeth. As the tray is lightweight you can wear it comfortably while you are awake or asleep. Whitening gel is then placed in the tray, which you can wear while asleep or during the day. Results are normally seen within 2-3 days with the full effect achieved after 21 days. Once made, the trays can be kept and all that is required is more whitening gel.
Thinking about having teeth whitening done?
Patient: Do you offer a free consultation for Teeth Whitening?
Philip: Yes we do, if you would like to book an appointment we can discuss the treatment in full.
Patient: What types of Teeth Whitening Treatments do you offer?
Philip: We mainly do home whitening but we also do ‘in surgery’ whitening.
Patient: How do each of these treatments work?
Philip: Basically the whitening gels oxidize the staining compounds which breaks them down. However, the gels have to be in contact with the teeth for sufficiently long periods and be a strong enough oxidizing agent to work.
Patient: How long do these treatments take?
Philip: Usually 2 – 4 weeks.
Patient: How long do the effects last?
Philip: Usually 2-3 years, but the whitening can be maintained very straight-forwardly.
