Dentures
Complete and partial dentures can be used to replace teeth that are
lost due to either age, decay or trauma. At Gwersyllt Dental Practice
we use modern materials to make dentures that are more natural looking.
They are custom made by a skilled dental technician working with the
dentist over normally 5-6 visits. Please bring along any photos you
may have or old dentures so that we can individually customise your
dentures to give you the appearance you are looking for.
We can offer flexible partial dentures which fit tightly around natural
teeth and can improve the retention and reduce the size of the denture
on the palate. We also offer dentures retained by implants which help
retain the denture securely and preserve bone around the implant.
We can copy the appearance and shape of your old dentures. If you have
successful dentures that become loose or discoloured we can remake them
without changing them dramatically. This can be a useful technique if
you require a spare set.
How long do dentures last?
A well-designed and made denture can last many years, the materials
do however wear away and discolour with time. The ridges in your mouth
shrink as well as the jawbones by up to 7mm in 10 years. This is what
makes a well-fitting denture become loose, move when you talk and give
you sore spots under it. It is reasonable to expect that a denture needs
to be replaced about every 5 to 10 years. Better quality teeth look
better and last longer.
